Yesterday I was at my parents' house in Devon Park. My Dad is wheelchair bound and I was taking care of him. The fire alarms at Devon Park (45 Stanley Point Rd) are very sensitive, which is something I learned 10 years ago after the steam from my shower set it off. It cost me $800.00. Yesterday my 90 year old Dad was upset by the pantry moths that were starting to multiply in his home. He asked if I would spray them, which set off the alarm. The Fire Department came out even though we hit the false alarm panel several times (I rang the property manager immediately). They sent two trucks and three fireman inspected the house for one minute. I was informed that my expense will be $1200.00. The building manager informed me, that on top of that, that I will be charged an assessment fee for determining that $1200.00 cost, which could be upwards of $300.00. $1500.00!!!! Really? WHY? Why is it that expensive to use fly spray, take a shower or burn toast like a normal human being? The alarms go off in Devon Park and it's usually a false alarm. My parents can ill afford this, I can can ill afford it and I want something done about it. I'm informing the Flagstaff and North Shore Times that I was shown absolutely no mercy for my mistake. The fireman that came out didn't even seem to care. This is my son's gmail account, so his name will appear, but my name is Ellen Wilks-Stokes, daughter of Bill and Anne Wilks at G6 in Devon Park. By the way, Devon Park's Christmas Party was yesterday and I apologized to all the tenants, several of whom were flabbergasted and unaware that fly spray could set off their alarms and cost so much. One can of spray cost me $1500.00. Punitive, Draconian and unreasonable. I would like a detailed breakdown of the expenses.
