I'm still confused about how the barcode works, if retailers use their own in house database, what was the purpose in registering a barcode and listing them in other databases in the first place?

Big scam, I registered my product barcode with them, complete with product image, details and name, and was issued a certificate with a GTIN very quickly. But a few months later when I searched my GTIN in the EAN database, it produced no results and no information found. I contacted International Barcodes via email but never heard back.
The useless barcode is now on my product around the world and I can't recall everything back. Will have to wait till I finish selling the existing stock and change the barcode on the packaging for the next production run. Needless to say I won't be buying my next barcode from them.
