The Moorings Apartments

Bedbugs and inhospitality. Spent three nights getting eaten alive in the starboard apartment. At first I chalked it up to mosquitos, but the the second and third nights I kept the apartment closed up tight, and slept covered in mosquito repellant, and got more bites each night, a trail of them down the right side of my body, with the characteristic "breakfast, lunch, dinner" pattern of bedbugs. Two of the mornings I woke up and found streaks of blood in the sheets, but still didn't put it all together until I was waiting for the ferry back to Auckland. Be My Guest, the management company, couldn't have been more patronizing or dismissive. They said they took a look and saw no signs of bedbugs, and that it must have been mosquitos. No explanation for the blood streaks in the sheets. No engagement when I sent them pictures of the over 100 bites I received. "Good luck with your recovery" was how they signed off their last email before becoming nonresponsive. Obviously I'll never be going back. I feel bad for the owners of the property, who seem like nice people, but if Be My Guest treated the bedbug problem with the same care they treated me, then my advice is to STEER CLEAR

This place is so great it's hard to describe. Amazing location, with a fantastic view of Auckland in the distance. Very calm, very quiet, and to wake up with that view in the mornings is just amazing. I would recommend this to any couple wanting a romantic and relaxing getaway. Plus, Waikehe island is a fantastic place in general, a minor tropical paradise. Don't miss renting a car and driving around the island to visit the wineries.
