Used to be a very nice cake shop but now is unkempt, with unfriendly staff. Ordered a drink there which tasted awful, won't be returning.

This really is one of the hidden gems of Auckland. Basically this is a bakery producing authentic Chinese foods (usually ones not available from "other" Chinese bakeries). They do a range of steamed buns including pork, chives, etc etc. They also have sticky rice parcels (a staple for most Chinese) as well as assorted breads and other really Chinesey offerings. I recently discovered that they make Xaio Lung Bao (dumplings with soup inside). They're becoming more popular so that's unsurprising I guess. Still a pleasant discovery. They do do a range of cakes however I've never in honesty tried them. Further I don't think that I'd bother... not that there'd be anything wrong with them... its just when I think birthday cake, the last place which would cross my mind would be a Chinese bakery.
