On 16 December 2022 only hours after arriving in New Zealand we bought petrol for $80.41 at Mobil Parnell and used our credit card to pay. It was at 20.18 - that evening. At 5am the next morning (17th), we were woken by a text from our Australian Bank to say they had just refused payment for a purchase of over $250 on that same credit card. We spoke to the bank and confirmed we had not charged anything since using the card for petrol at "Mobil Parnell" at 506 Parnell Road Remuera. The receipt records the person who did our petrol transaction as "Kazi". Our receipt number is CI011142186 TRANSACTION NUMBER 1142186. Mobil might consider vetting their staff more carefully in future. On a previous visit to NZ we were scammed by the same method at a KFC drive through window in West Auckland. The same thing happened on that occasion - our Bank called us to check a strange transaction only hours after using our credit card, and had correctly refused payment. Since this latest scam we have paid everything with cash, apart from motel bookings. Be careful travelling in New Zealand as there are plenty of dishonest people who will abuse your credit card if they manage to capture it during a valid transaction. Check your statements carefully in case your bank doesn't pick up suspicious transactions and alert you. Both of our scammers put through their online purchases at 4 am NZ time while we were sleeping. Take care. The one star review is for our bank!
