Just wanted to update my previous post. Our son is thriving at his new centre after the fear and harm he came to at this Kindy. We did complain to the Ministry of Education, Teachers Council and the Ministry for Children about the teachers knowing our son was being hurt on a daily basis by another older child and not telling us, also lying to us. The teachers have undergone development courses and the teachers involved also have it on their record at the teachers council. It was sad for our son as he trusted them and they knew he was scared and getting hurt every day and didn't put any plan at all in place to keep him safe. It was the first time he learnt that not all adults make good choices. On a positive note hopefully the teachers know now that its their job to keep the children safe. Also if they let harm happen to other children there is now an ongoing record. The Ministry for Children is helping the child who harmed our son. Its sad to me that teachers like this exist. Keeping children safe is every adults priority and if you have to take some courses to figure that out you shouldn't be a teacher. Teaching is not a profession to stay in for the money. You should have passion and love.

I would like to share my positive experience I had at Glen Innes Kindergarten, as a student teacher. The Kindergarten fosters and supports a positive, caring and high-quality learning environment. It has been a pleasure to work alongside professional teachers, thank you for this opportunity! He taonga te mokopuna, kia whaagaia, kia tipu, kia rea. A child is a treasure, to be nurtured, to grow, to flourish.

In the interests of transparency and the well being of all of our children, we would like to share that we have removed our 3 year old from Glen Innes Kindy due to him being targeted by a much older larger child for repeated hitting, pushing, and threatening behaviour. The teaching staff elected not to share this with us. When our son became scared to go to kindy and suffered significant emotional difficulty due to this we approached kindergarten staff to protect him. We were told the bully would be shadowed to keep our 3 year old safe so we elected not to withdraw him. The Kindy has admitted shadowing never happened. The Kindy has apologised to us. However they have not been able to adhere to a number of their own safety procedures with regards to our son and we are looking into taking this further as 3 year olds deserve to be kept safe and we trusted this kindy with the safety of our son. If your child attended last term and prior they were probably also subjected to abuse. Please watch your child for any signs. Please share this with other parents. Lets keep our kids safe.
