        Drive to the end of Mabey Road where there is room to park and a toilet is there also. A short walk through the pine trees to the beach. Stick to the track as there is nesting shore birds in the area. We saw a dotterel while we were there. Nice bay.

        Great Barrier Island has one of the best beaches in New Zealand, maybe in the whole world. There is nothing like it. Largely untouched, it offers a pristine view of the ocean and land. We saw habitats fishing but hardly saw anyone swimming. The inlet peninsula is good for swimming but the ocean water is rough and maybe not safe for swimming. However, it is an amazing place to see, feel and hear the ocean. There is a toilet facility at the car park.
