A breathtaking beach at Muriwai. Black sand and good surf. Locals fish from the big flat rocks but you'd need to take care and watch the tides and waves. Take a walk up the hill to the Gannet colony to see the birds and read their story of migration. It's like being in a David Attenborugh movie. You can watch the birds fly in to hundreds of chick's and go straight yo their own baby. We visited in January and there were new chick's and older half grown birds. Beautiful colours, lots of chirping and a bit smelly but it's all part of the experience which is not to be missed ots of parking and public toilets.
