They are open until 4pm. We were there at 3:35pm. Mori women at the gate said it is closed, and she was extremely rude. She said that it is closed, regardless, and it is not her problem that we have travelled so far. Worst experience in NZ so far.

The trail is nice. You can spend an hour or so wondering around the hot lakes and mud pools. The fact it costs $30 is not so nice. There are better trails around town for less money. And this doesn't even get you access to the rest of the village or the geyser
