Thank you thank you thank you we stayed here during the recent cyclone.. thank god for Potaka Marae my wife l, my daughter, my cousin & myself were safe amd well thank you this is a very very very special place that we all will hold close to our hearts love you Whanau we are very grateful, who ever is the care taker of this Marae is so super sweet, we walked in to Potaka & there were at least a dozen mattresses and pillows layer out ready to cater for anyone who need the emergency accommodation, oh my god only at Potaka

A very special place, where many of my whanau are buried in the urupaa out front. Further north of Te Araroa, it stands on the opposite side of the road from a local school. This marae is dedicated to the fallen soldiers of Te Hokowhitu a Tu / the Maori Battalion from both World Wars, in commemoration of their sacrifice to ensure our freedom.
