        It feels like the old NZ that I left in the 90's. I have just returned for a visit in 2023, to find that lovely old New Zealand spot full of local families fishing and relaxing together. There's plenty of walking to do down the spit towards Maketu. Make a day of it, and combine the river mouth and spit with the near by Kaituna Wetland. Finish the day at a caf down at Maketu
