Having checked online twice to see if winery was open, we took a drive up to visit only to discover closed sign on door. Phone number doesn't go through although online says open. Disappointing.

This was truly a magical experience for us. We stopped into the cellar door, and did a tasting. The girl working there was incredibly welcoming, and just a very cool person. We really enjoyed chatting with her and she provided great service in talking about the wines and recommending ones we might like based on what flavors we said we liked in wines. I was curious about the Riesling because it's the kind of wine that can either blow you away, or just turn out unbalanced to the sweet side. First sip of the 2012 Riesling and I was absolutely sold. The wine did have some light sweetness but it was incredibly well balanced with acidity. The flavors were complex throughout the entire long finish. We followed with the 2019 Riesling which was just as amazing. I know this is incredibly cheesy, but what came to mind was that the wine is what happiness would taste like, if you could taste emotion. We then took glasses of wine to the patio and tried the cheese platter. Absolutely amazing view and the cheese was also incredibly unique to other cheeses we've had! The peppered cheeses paired deliciously with the Riesling. The owner kindly lent us a pair of binoculars so we could see the boats in the water up close. The owner also breeds butterflies so there were some gliding peacefully around to make the experience all the more magical. I know I'm totally gushing, but we loved our experience. It's one we will really remember forever, and I hope we get to return!

Ported in Akaroa for a day and walked the steep climb up to the winery. The climb was so worth it. The view was breathtaking and the wine was fantastic! Nothing like the Riesling Wine have back in the US.
