My 11 year old son was seen by Joseph for his initial "free" Orthodontic consultation, on March 11th. X-rays were taken. Joseph did a lot of out loud thinking and tended towards the worst case scenario end of the spectrum, in terms of favoured treatment options, that could have amounted to as high as $8500 if requiring a general anesthetic for prep dental and orthodontic work, for stage 1. This was before getting to the likes of braces. Dental was going to be a minimum of $1500 to over $5000 alone depending on whether a general anesthetic was required, using the Dental Surgeon on site. Joseph said he would formalize a treatment plan and get that out to us, within a week, to move forward with a definite plan. The receptionist told us, it would be more like two weeks before we would be posted the plan. Six weeks later, there has been no sign of a plan. Also be wary of the free consultation. If you or your child require x-rays and so forth, which would be in the majority of cases, The Big Grin charge $360 for records. When we were leaving the consultation, my wife heard Joseph say to his assistant "go after them." Joseph's assistant literally came running after us, as we were exiting, informing us we needed to pay for the records (x-rays). We turned back, paid the $360 requested and left. It is fair to say we came away feeling stressed and uneasy about the entire experience. I'd strongly recommend you do your research on Orthodontists available in Christchurch and do not go near this Practice. Subsequently, we have found another Christchurch based Orthodontist, who provided a treatment plan on the day, and no charges for "records." The plan in place, working in synergy with our family Dentist, will save thousands compare to where we would have likely ended up with the Big Grin.
