Very unpleasant experience and unethical behaviour by the property manager Eric. We checked out of the hotel and got charged $80 for a luggage rack that the manager claims we broke during our stay. No prior communication or effort was made by the manager to contact us or inform us of the issue. He feels free to take the money from my card and then calls me ridiculous for questioning him about this over the phone. The rooms were not cleaned property. The food was below average and amenities in the room were uncleaned from previous use. Although the property and location itself is beautiful the service and the transparency of their staff is poor. Will not recommend staying there.

The check-in was very uncomplicated and Eric, who is responsible for everything and the good soul of the hotel, personally showed us the hotel and our room. We booked the room with the king bed. The bed was very large and comfortable, although not as large as a king size bed. The room is very luxuriously appointed and has an incredible and priceless dreamlike view of Christchurch. Eric also gave us recommendations for restaurants as the hotel is currently not serving dinner. Breakfast both mornings consisted of a bowl of cereal, two pieces of toast, jam, butter, a fried egg, orange juice and a pot of tea. We liked it and it was enough, but not up to the standard of a 5* hotel. (However, it must also be mentioned that there were only 2 other guests besides us and it is therefore sustainable and environmentally conscious not to offer large quantities of food and then possibly have to throw them away) The entire hotel is luxuriously furnished. Only the outdoor areas / green areas need to be maintained a little more. All in all we had an excellent time at Hackthorns and would return. We have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and would like to thank Eric for his friendly manner and for accommodating all of our needs. Der Check in gestaltete sich sehr unkompliziert und Eric, der fr alles verantwortlich und die gute Seele des Hotels ist, zeigte uns persnlich das Hotel und unser Zimmer. Wir hatten das Zimmer mit dem Kingsize Bett gebucht. Das Bett war sehr gro und bequem, allerdings nicht so gro wie ein Kingsize Bett. Der Raum ist sehr luxuris ausgestattet und hat einen unglaublichen und unbezahlbar traumhaften Ausblick auf Christchurch. Eric gab uns ebenfalls Empfehlungen fr Restaurants, da im Hotel derzeit kein Abendbrot angeboten wird. Das Frhstck bestand an beiden Morgen aus einer Schssel Msli, zwei Toast, Marmelade, Butter, einem gebratenen Ei, Orangensaft und einer Kanne Tee. Es hat uns geschmeckt und war auch gengend, aber entspricht nicht dem Standard eines 5* Hotels. (Man muss allerdings auch erwhnen, dass neben uns nur noch 2 weitere Gste anwesend waren und es somit nachhaltig und umweltbewusst ist, keine groen Mengen an Essen anzubieten und diese dann eventuell wegwerfen zu mssen) Das gesamte Hotel ist luxuris ausgestattet. Lediglich die Auenanlagen / Grnanlagen mssen wieder etwas mehr gepflegt werden. Alles in allem hatten wir eine hervorragende Zeit im Hackthorns und wrden wieder kommen. Wor knnen dieses Hotel ruhigen Gewissens empfehlen und bedanken uns bei Eric fr seine freundliche Art und die Erfllung all unserer Anliegen.
