This place may not suitable for kids, teenagers who want to make a lot of noise, older people, or people with disabilities, or people with a lot of luggage due to the steep nature of the driveway and narrow stairs to the entrance. That aside, and as someone who is not bothered by these + having my own small car, I thoroughly enjoyed the sherwood lodge. It is reasonably priced, very clean, beautiful comfortable rooms with beautiful outside views, Comfortable beds, serene garden full of native birds, lovely clean bath tub, good WiFi (i could actually play some of my online games with ok ping). It was a very pleasant place to stay when I had to be in Christchurch for a couple of nights. The only way it could have been an unappealing stay would be if the other visitors were messy and loud, and they werent. My room did not have a desk so if you need a desk for computer work I would not recommend my room, not sure if other rooms had a desk. I just chilled in the TV room bean bag or the bed for using the laptop. I also liked the location because it was out of the way of the noisy traffic-heavy Centre city. After a long day out I really looked forward to being back at the lodge. Maybe I am just easy to please because I am used to staying in old rickety 20$ per night hunting cabins but for a bit extra and getting such a 5 star comfortable and clean experience in a beautiful location I am very satisfied.

Was traveling for work and needed a place last minute on this side of town, had booked this place and thought it was all sorted. The next day when I was supposed to check in I got a text message saying I could not stay due to needing to check out at 5.30am which was before 6am as this would disturb the other guests. This of course caused alot of stress as I scrambled to find alternate arangements 20 min before flying down to christchurch. I'm a quiet person who enjoys sleep and was only going to get up and leave, causing no more noise than someone going to the bathroom or making a cup of tea because they can't sleep. I was disappointed at this lack of flexibility and assumption that I was going to be like a heard of elephants that has no regard for other guests. So 1/5 stars, if your needing an early check out or planning on getting up early, this is not the place for you. Only redeeming factor was they offered a full refund because I was not welcome. One would assume early risers are also not welcome?

Absolutely charming! I was lucky enough to have the place to myself and found Sherwood Lodge to be a tranquil slice of heaven after a long day of driving. Pros: excellent grounds and amenities, spotlessly clean, fresh milk and a selection of teas and coffees provided. Con (?) kitchen, lounge room and bathroom are sharedthis is very clear on the listing though. The only surprises were pleasantlike the piwakawaka that kept me company as I ate dinner in the garden.
