We stayed here last June and it was a highlight of our South Island trip. Our stay in the farmhouse apartment felt like going to stay with a favourite aunt, so warm and welcoming. Rachel went out of her way to make our stay extra special, toys for our girls, an introduction to all the farm animals, fire lit on our return from a days outing. We extended our stay and were very sorry to have to leave at all. Go now while you can!

We had a wonderful visit staying in the homestead apartment. The grand old homestead was almost demolished in the Kaikoura earthquake but has been rebuilt retaining its former glory and now has all the modern conveniences too. Thanks to Rachel and Kurt for your hospitality and all the special little extras - flowers, fresh farm eggs and apples from the orchard! A farm stay experience not to be missed.

My wife and I have lived in New Zealand for three years now and have been fortunate enough to have explored both the North and South Island extensively. Without hesitation, Lynton Downs is our favourite place in New Zealand for two reasons in particular. First, Kaikoura hosts the best of both worlds with the rich marine life and the rugged mountains. Second, Lynton Downs' hosts, the Bartrum family, are the kindest, most accommodating people we have met in NZ, who have a special talent for both making their rooms both cozy and tasteful. One can help with the sheep farm or take a beautiful tramp right out their back door. Rachel's fresh bread and food basket is divine and the three Bartrum kiddos are the salt of the earth. I could not recommend Lynton Downs highly enough because it is New Zealand at its best.
