WASTED POTENTIAL. I don't say this lightly - because this hotel has some very strong points and has the potential to be the best mass market hotel in Christchurch, but there are serious drawbacks that make me unable to recommend it, especially at the price point. I stayed for 2 nights. Room: The room was well designed, relatively new, and clean. But the soundproofing was not good - a lot of leakage between rooms. It so happened my neighbours had small children that were bawling all night. In our case we needed rest during the day, but the room cleaning outside during the day meant that doors were being closed loudly all day, so it was too noisy. Oddly enough, my room, 311, had poor wifi signal at the sitting area / tables, but excellent wifi nearer to the room door and bathroom. I ended up working while sitting on the toilet, which was quite the sight. Parking was a bit of a problem, because the hotel parking is not connected to the hotel, and is frequently running short - they offer free parking tickets for the lot opposite if the hotel carpark is full, but that carpark is (like many carparks in CHC badly graded and basically a gravel lot with flooding). I took no points away for this last point as it wasn't the hotel's fault. Service: The hotel was quite understaffed - especially at the concierge and at meal service, where there were long waits and the staff also looked very tired, with maybe 5 front of house workers for the entire morning buffet service. I do not fault the staff at all, but do think that if full service cannot be offered, then some stations should be cut and the breakfast charges reduced accordingly . Location: Location was great, very central. As mentioned, parking was a bit of an issue, but that seems to be a city-wide problem, not to do with the hotel.
