One star for policy that doesnt make sense - not giving any indication of the wait over the phone. As all patients have to physically present to the clinic to have an understanding of the ball park of the wait time - that means more patients leaving the clinic before being seen if the wait time is not to their liking - wasting reception and the triage nurses time while also delaying time to triage of patients who could be genuinely sick in need of urgent attention while perhaps not able to advocate for themselves to reception to be flagged to a nurse and triaged sooner. To unpack: I called reception this evening wanting to know a ball park for the wait time - I explained to the receptionist that I understand the following: - they cant give a certain wait time for when youll be seen - the triage nurse will provide a more accurate wait time based on severity (he was trying to explain this to me and I was like Im an emergency department nurse - I understand how triage works ) - I would be a triage 4 so know I wont be expedited by the nurse, so I just want to know a ballpark of how long it may be to see a doctor at this moment in time, for standard triage 4-5 patients, knowing that projections can change at any moment with emergencies Receptionist refused to give any indication of the wait So instead I asked how many doctors are on - the receptionist stated he is unable to give out information on doctors, I stated I dont want their information, I want to know the number of them on shift and ideally also how many patients still waiting to be seen so I can make my own judgement about wait time (which may be a poor judgement made lol but then its on me, and I understand the receptionist not being overly keen to give me a ballpark of wait time as patients can sometimes get aggressive when its passed that period of time and they havent yet been seen. Hence asking about doctor numbers. This is an indirect way of advising about wait time where the patient can make their own decision about how long the wait may likely be, taking the onus off reception. I then asked how long it was likely to be to be seen by a nurse for triage, the nurse could then give me an indication of how long for the doctor - the receptionist again declined to answer my question, stating he cant tell me that information. I have experience working on reception in urgent care in Auckland, and as an emergency department nurse, and I found your blanket policy of no disclosure of any kind about wait time to be appalling! In urgent care we either explained how many doctors were on, and how many patients waiting to be seen - or if it was a short wait we would indicate so (with disclaimers that this could change). In ED we have a literal massive screen in the waiting room with the wait time at ED and the wait time at the closest urgent care clinics as comparison. If youre worried about patients who are actually sick not presenting after hearing of a long wait over the phone - people will choose to present or not present anyway. Explaining that those who need immediate urgent care will be seen more quickly is part of the explanation around wait time and should assuage this. *Receptionist wasnt rude or anything, he explained everything in a clear manner - I have issue with your policy, not the staff carrying it out!

Great service from receptionist to triage nurse and the awesome doctor (Alec) and nurse who came to calm my daughter while she was getting her chin stitched up. We even got tea/coffee and ice popsicle offered. Waiting time was not too bad. Great work :) thank you everyone!
