Good people, particular about the homes they list so the quality is always pretty good. They are keen on making sure no parties or mass gatherings occur in the homes also so very unlikely to get any rubbish behaviour in adjacent properties. Ideal for a few days or more. 2 day minimum bookings.

My landlord and most of the people I have dealt with from CHCH Holiday Homes have been really helpful (especially Anita) and I was grateful to find pet friendly accommodation when I really needed it for a couple of months. I did, however, have the worst customer service experience on a phone call with their manager Karen. She drove me to tears and was cold, rude, and disrespectful. As a manager myself I could never imagine treating a client this way. Having gone through a house fire, burglary, dealing with detectives, police, firefighters, insurance, builders, electricians and more at a time of great stress - a little bit of kindness or basic empathy would have gone a long way. If it weren't for this interaction I would have rated higher.

We stayed at Akaroa Harbour View, managed by Christchurch Holiday Homes. I wish I could give this property 0 but 1 star is the lowest. The place doesn't look anything like the photos on the listing. It is at the top of a steep driveway and there is construction all around. The outdoor furniture is broken and there is only a roof view not a harbour view. The small deck off the kitchen where you can see part of the harbour is dirty. There is a hole in the bedroom door. This is the first thing seen upon entry so it is not welcoming at all. There is a musty smell upstairs. The curtains are coming off the curtain rods. It is so hot upstairs during the day and we can't get relief by opening a window as there are no fly screens on any of the windows. There are cobwebs everywhere. Dirty dishes were put back in the cupboard. Rubbish bins and Re-cycle bins are almost over-flowing. The BBQ hadn't been cleaned. The windows were dirty. The entire house needs a thorough deep clean both inside and out. There was no hair dryer provided as stated in the amenities listed. There was no coffee, no milk, the kettle leaked, and there wasn't even salt and pepper. The TV didn't work. We had to beg for a repairman to come to fix it. At first the agent at Christchurch Holiday Homes said just turn it off and leave it for the night and see if it works the next day! Finally a serviceman arrived 3 days into our stay and said the trees were so overgrown that the satellite dish was being compromised, so the signal couldn't get through. A professional would need to be hired to cut the trees and bushes back. I also attempted to contact the owner right at the beginning of our stay but I had to go through Christchurch Holiday Homes and they refused to provide any contact details. Every time I contacted them I dealt with a different person so I had to keep re-explaining our issues. I took photographs of many of the problems and examples of the dirty house and sent them to Christchurch Holiday Homes on the first day of our stay. All I was told was that they were busy over the summer and they were sorry the house didn't live up to our expectations. Being busy is not an excuse for the total disrepair of this house! If you are too busy to maintain your property to an acceptable standard, either hire better cleaners or don't rent it out until it is fixed! I also resent the implication that it was my fault we didn't like the place because my expectations were too high. This place would not live up to anyone's expectations! All we expect is a clean house with a working TV that reflects the description listed on the website. This property failed on all counts. We have travelled all over NZ for many, many years and have stayed in many, many different holiday homes. For the money we paid for this house, this the worst place we've ever rented. It was also very frustrating dealing with Christchurch Holiday Homes as all they could offer us were excuses and accusations. This was not a pleasant experience for our first holiday since Covid. We had travelled a long way from the North Island and we expect so much better.
