Benchmark Homes

Neighbors to a Benchmark build. The building site had been dragging along for over 1.5 years and still is no where near completed. We have put up with with their contractors starting at 5:30am at times, parking over/blocking the foot path, damaging berms and kerbs. The skip has been full for several weeks so their rubbish has blown everywhere. They have used large rocks where the drive way is to go so people in wheel chairs or parents with prams haven't been able use the footpath for 1.5 years. Had mentioned some issues to Benchmark early in the build and they were dismissive then ignored our messages. Would not recommend them.

We had a wonderful experience with Benchmark from the get go. From our first conversation we could tell this was a company that really cared about our vision and valued us as clients. We appreciated that they remained transparent throughout the entire build, especially with the ever changing climate of the building industry. There was always someone there to answer our questions, give advice and just maintain good communication overall. We used benchmark to build our new house in Cashmere Estate, we have been in the house for 7 months now and absolutely loving it. Richard was really enthusiastic about listing to our ideas and how we live as a family to create a unique design. Killian did a fantasic job of project management. We wanted a boutique high quality professional building company to build a modern architecural house for good value, and benchmark more than exceeded all our expectations; would build with them again! Benchmark helped us in buying a plot, and designing and building our house in Halswell. We selected Benchmark as a friend of ours who built their house with Benchmark ten years ago recommended them to us. We very much like our friend's house. We really enjoyed working with Benchmark from start to finish. Richard, who is the owner of Benchmark, is a great guy to work with. He is responsive; I dont remember if there was a time when he did not get back to us if we had any query. I always have a fear of investing money with a builder on building a new house as I heard so many horror stories. However, after having talked to Richard, I felt safe signing a house construction contract with them. Our building construction started in the middle of January and finished by the end of June. We had a great project manager (an employee of Benchmark) who was very accommodative and was helpful to provide advice beyond the agreed construction contract. The project met all the milestones and completed exactly as per the original plan. Good weather during the last summer and autumn certainly helped to complete the project on time. Over the period of building the house we interacted with most of Benchmark's small close-knit employees and their subcontractors. Every one of them were very pleasant to work with. I believe many of the subcontractors have been working with Benchmark for over fifteen years. We found their work standards and the material they provided are of high quality. Contacting some of the subcontractors was at times frustrating. I suspect this may be due to work pressures. We wished Benchmark helped us with landscaping work which they did not. We needed to do this on our own, which was a bit of inconvenience to us. By the end of our house construction my wife and I became fans of Benchmark as an organisation: (1) Benchmark is led by a good person, (2) employees say they love to work with Benchmark, (3) subcontractors are proud that they are working for Benchmark for many many years and (4) one non-Benchmark tradesperson said to us that in the long run he wants to be a Benchmark subcontractor. For these reasons I have no hesitation in recommending Benchmark to anyone who is considering building a house. Services: Project management, Design
