2022 - One star The area can still be used for camping, if you can get to it. It is not currently accessible by vehicle as half of the concrete ford is washed out/ gone. You don't find this out though until you arrive at the steel swing gate that's locked at the river/ford. 2018 - Three stars Overall a great campsite, with a functioning long drop. The river/ford is only a hundred metres or so away. Because of the location, sunshine didn't land on the tent until about 0815 (which was great - nice to wake without baking!). You're close to the entrances to three tracks. While I was there there were a few pigs and deer in the area and, as you'd expect, loads of birds - especially the curious fantail. This is a basic campsite where you make your home in your chosen area, so don't expect sectioned tent sites or anything fancy, other than the long drop of course :) Unfortunately some campsite visitors don't apply the 'leave only footprints' philosophy, so there were quite a few items of rubbish around the campsite area - empty beer and spirit bottles, a discarded tent rolled up and 'hidden' by the river, and the inevitable bits of toilet paper and sanitary pads all around the site (but nowhere near the long drop). A sad testament to (some of) the modern day visitors (tourists and Kiwis alike). There is no mobile signal at the campsite, but you will find it on the Mt Grey track (depending on your provider I guess - I have a 'Skinny' SIM). If you have a bee or wasp allergy be aware that (as at Jan 2018) there are a lot of both in the area. There were also a number of planes (light & commercial) on most days. Still, this campsite and varied surrounding tracks are definitely worth a visit if you have the opportunity. Whether it's a day trip, an overnight or even longer it's a great spot - just make sure you have water, your insect repellent and sunscreen!

The campsite is located at the end of the public road surrounded by Bush and exotic forest. The DoC walking tracks begin at the site. Only has a long drop toilet, no other facilities. The walks are really nice in the area.

Stream was a little dirty and the Ford seemed damaged from flooding. Would recommend a 4wd to cross. I left before setting up camp due to weather/risk of stream becoming flooded during the night.
