        A short walk (10 min) through ancient native forest. The path is quite smooth except the odd tree root. There's also a couple clearings for picnic spots (one accessible by foot). Would recommend taking the bug spray.

        This Reserve is one of the only remnants of the grand podocarp forest that dominated the Banks Peninsula. Kaituna Scenic Reserve is a 6 hectare patch of native lowland bush with some large examples of Matai, Kahikatea, Rata, Cabbage Trees and Miro. It also boasts some large titoki trees for Canterbury. A short walking track that is ideal for families with young children. There is a pleasant picnic area at the entrance and a short easy walking track making a circuit around this flat valley floor reserve. Getting there: Turn off State Highway 75 on the Kaituna Valley Road. Reserve is approximately 5kms on left side.
