Okains Bay campground

It was our first time going to this place. I was surprised the ocean wasnt that cold @ 3pm swim even if its already April. The beach has this refined sand and wide shoreline. Waves werent that huge and has gradual down slope of sand beneath it, a reason my kids enjoyed it. Plenty of camping sites with beautiful mountains. Facilities always cleaned by the staffs. Great playground. Almost five stars for me if not for the mice climbing our tent at night when about to sleep. Not a big problem, just a reminder to store your food securely.

We found Okains bay by accident, What a find! We have travelled right around the South Island , and this has to be New Zealand's best kept secret. The facilities were all spotless, the showers,($2 for a 4 minute hot shower) the laundry and the camp kitchen. There is even a dump site for the campervan toilet cassettes. The camp is spacious with a number of different locations to camp. The beach is a very short walk through the trees and there is a river on the north side. I would love to come back and explore the area further and camp at Okains bay again. Thankyou to the City of Christchurch for providing such an amazing facility.
