Selwyn District Council does whatever it wants. Well known in the building trade for being the biggest tool on site. Its building inspectors are totally hit a miss, some will pass you others will fail you on their grounds, not the rule book set it place by building code. They demand you fix it to their standard even when the house next door is totally the same but not to "their standard". Even when the inspector before gives you the green light to carry on, but some other high and mighty clown will fail you.Their way or the highway. If you looking at building in Selwyn, don't. Pack up and leave. Sell your section. Its too windy anyway.

Utterly incompetent and uncaring, no consequence for failures means no incentive to perform. Any complaints are met with a customer blaming attitude or a 'not our responsibility' mentality. Building consents timeframes are constantly in breach of the RMA yet there is no action or plan to improve this. Bins regularly not emptied properly. No cohesion between NZTA and local roads due to lack of planning and forward thinking. Regularly contradict their own planning zones to allow changes against the will of locals. Seems to be getting worse as the years go on, I have lost any confidence I once had with the SDC.
