Stopped by on our travels thanks to Google recommendations. Did not disappoint! What a fun experience to be surrounded by colorful birds. Some were very friendly!

Absolutely horrified and disappointed in the upkeep of the cages. Beautiful birds with very little greenery or toys. No stimulation, just metal jail cells. I particularly felt heart broken for the cockatoos, one of which has had feathers picked out by his friend (there was a sign saying so. Maybe they are doing so due to boredom ). This cockatoo looked so depressed and bent his head towards me for head scratches. It could be such a wonderful experience to go visit the birds but the ones in the cage just hung out in the back looking bored and/or scared and it was quite upsetting. Please do something about dressing up their cages and giving them more stimulation in there! My sister who is a zoologist was equally horrified by her visit there.

It absolutely breaks my heart to see animals in such neglected state , birds are intelligent, they need stimulation, mental enrichment, you have this beautiful large geodesic aviary and these birds are locked in bare cages , with not a thing to forage , nothing to allow them to show natural behaviors, by all means have an aviary , but care for the animals you have chosen to cage up better , give them a happy, enriched life with proper diet, and interaction how on earth has this been allowed for so long . This is animal abuse do better Timaru council .
