(Translated by Google) Alpacas are so cute, but the road to the ranch is very small, so drive carefully (Original) , ,

If you love soft fuzzy warm animals AND gorgeous landscape views, then take yourself to Shamarra Alpacas. We booked a last minute tour, and were very happy we did! Our tour guide Lydia was patient and knowledgeable; she clearly knows her stuff and truly cares for these furry creatures. We were able to walk among & feed the adults, as well as visit the nursery with the ADORABLE babies. The working farm is on top of a hill that overlooks one of the many bays by Akaroa. It felt like the Sound of Music, but with alpacas and a gift shop. Don't forget to wear boots :)

Very fun tour. The owner and the guide lady were very nice and informative. Learnt a lot about the farm history, alpacas life, especially the mothers and the babies. Alpacas are so cute. Their furs so soft!

Honestly I was not expecting a lot out of an alpaca farm. I thought, yeah, Ive seen an alpaca. Once youve seen one youve seen em all. Wrong!! Shamarras alpacas are full of personality and spit. My personal faves: Tornado, Dennis, and Pinot Noir. You might get to feel the embrace of the withered but unstoppable Rising Sun, who has allegedly fathered 250 alpacas, before he finally ages out of this world hes sewn with so much of his seed. Huge shout out to the extremely knowledgable and funny staff, who seem to have close personal friendships with every one of their 150+ alpacas. The pastures are set against an incredible Banks Peninsula vista. Deep blue ocean and forest green hills all around. If you stick around and admire the views long enough you might get to meet Charlie, a dog the alpacas really hate.
