1) The view is fantastic 2) Its peacefully quiet 3) The accommodation is clean, very clean ... 4) Lee is a tough cow girl with amazing love for nature . 5) The ride out of Gisborne is worth it if you dont mind the country I wouldnt mind coming back for a longer period of time again, just to experience the country living.

Lee is an amazing host! My friend and I, from USA, wanted a quiet place that reflected the heart of the North Island while we prepared for four days of camping at Rhythm & Vines. When Lee discovered we were going to eat cup'o'noodles for Christmas dinner, she invited us to join her for Shemshi Red Devon scotch fillets, instead. EXCELLENT steaks! Waking to the sounds of myriad birds, hills of sheep and cows, the goat, Sammy (a Border Collie mix), and her two horses that expect to be let in the gate every morning was fantastic! The sunrises during my morning coffee brought tears to my eyes, they were so majestic, and the sunsets from the hot tub were the perfect way to end each day. Lee even allowed me to wrestle with her four Rhodesian Ridgebacks when she let them out to play each night. We were lucky enough to be staying when one of her cows was birthing, and we got to see the calf within her first hours of life. Lee has a tradition to let her guests help name the calves when one is born during their visit, and in honor of our coming from Seattle, we named her Shemshi Emerald Rain! I have done a fair bit of international travel, and I like to choose places to stay which encompass the heart and soul of the area. Team Shemshi did you proud, New Zealand!
