Better than the freedom camping site. We turned up at 9.30pm on new years eve (not good planning on our part) and left early the next day so please bare that in mind. We were waved in by a gentleman, found ourselves a spot, priced at $36 for 1 night, 2 people, unpowered. The showers were 1 dollar coin operated, we didn't use them. Pros- Clean kitchen area with 2 kitchen sinks. We parked next to a lovely lavender hedge and there was a nice outside sitting area. Cons- The bathrooms weren't gross, neither were they clean. Cold water only for hand washing and no drying options. Very quiet vibe for new years and the office offered rental for several fun activities.

We had done a loop from Dannevirke to Weber to see the Waihi Falls and were heading towards Hastings the next day, so just wanted somewhere to stay for one night. At the time we stayed it was $18 for a tent site. The showers were $1. Kitchen was pretty dated (ancient looking microwave) but had all the basics. We ate at the Duke Hotel Porangahau so didn't need the kitchen. Close to the beach for fishing and walking. Nice family campground. It wasn't rowdy - just kids playing outside enjoying the space.
