Morepork and kiwi calling at night, tui during the day. Lovely bush setting, make sure you have insect repellent. Terrible toilets though, make sure you bring toilet paper. Spent several days chilling and reading. Oh, Google's directions will send you the wrong way... they have failed to add Lawrence Road, despite having been advised of this.

Lawrence Rd is a better maintained gravel road than most in NZ. Quite smooth but with a steep drop towards the end. Room to park the car before the drop and maybe a half km walk to the swing bridge. We took the Honda Fit down and with a good start, managed to get back up the hill on the way out (in nice dry conditions). Trails were a bit overgrown but walking back along and through the river was nice.
