Amazing place magical in the bush. Felt very safe for a solo traveller Will recommend to others. The walk is not that steep it's expected for farmlands. Don't let the easy walk down and up put you off. Its easy! $5 per adult put into honesty box (please pay to help the family who own the land) and about 2 hour return walk to the boulders

Cool spot. Cost is $5 pp with under 12s free, on an honesty system. A bit slippery the day after rain so wear tramping boots, but I managed in running shoes. After parking, it's a walk across a paddock, then down a gravel farm track to another paddock by the river, then the boulders are in the bush. A toilet with paper and a basin justifies the small expense in itself. I had two 4 year olds who managed the descent and ascent with no real issues but there are two numbers you can call if needed.

Although reasonably easy to find, the last 8 km or so is on narrow gravel road. Take your time and enjoy the scenery. The walk itself is all downhill, about 30-45 mins. You'll be climbing that on the way back, so don't go on the hottest day of the year! The boulders themselves are in a lovely little bit of forest. Near the start is a nice flushing toilet, and if you follow the path, it leads to the boulders and a great little seating area where your can eat you picnic.

Went for a visit with my parents. We absolutely loved it. Amazing view of the mighty Rangitkei river. A secret world down by the river. The boulders were an incredible destination accompanied by some fantail friends. A slice of our historic past. Found this walk by chance on google maps but it was one of the highlights of our weekend in the district.
