VERY muddy, but nice walk up to the Atene lookout that was pretty easy with only a gradual incline. The sign said this was a 2hr return walk but I completed it in an hour, so would highly recommend checking this walk out and the view is great!

I did the Atene Skyline Track on a beautiful sunny day so there was no muddiness at all. Theres a lot of fallen trees/slips, so just be careful! Majority of the path towards the end are also overgrown and difficult to see but just keep your eyes on the orange triangles and youll be set. Recommend going from the North entrance first. End with a beautiful view of the Whanganui river and then walk 2kms back (flat road!) to the Northern entrance carpark. Id say its moderate as a person with low average fitness, but its doable. Beautiful views at the viewpoint. If youre going on the full track, theres a nice hut you can relax at. Theres also a tank of untreated water if you need to refill your bottle but advised to boil! (Or bring those water purification tabs/filter straw!) Enjoy!
