Great camp in a peaceful small beach town not far from Wanganui. Good for swimming and fishing. Whanganui is a 15-minute drive boasting superb cafs, Saturday River Market, Virginia Lake, Kowhai Park, and lots more. The camp is not far away from the beach with a 5 minute walk, has a park for the kids in the actual campground as well as down closer to the beach. A grass picnic or BBQ area is also just down from the Kai Iwi Beach Holiday Park and closer to the beach itself. The campground has great space as well for bbq and picnics. Facilities are kept clean but are older. The only one thing to consider would be finding a slightly more hidden but still accessible recycle rubbish area and not having it so close to two bbqs and a large picnic table. The proprietors are easy to chat with and very obliging. You'll need to book very early for the summer season here because there are lots of local Whanganui people who love to stay too. Pet friendly at the campground also. Cricket is often played out on the beach here as there's sheltered space. Driftwood is collectible as the ocean sculpts it into wonderful garden pieces and a small momento of a Beach Holiday Park well worthy of a stay. Thanks for a wonderful weekend, and of course, we'll be back. Felt relaxed
