Nice little ride. After a week's worth of rain, thought I'd give this a whirl. It's stated as intermediate so thought it would be ok, albeit a tad muddy in spot's. Nice trail and scenic . Only one average little climb not far after turning away from rail section and entering the Erua bush. Was only a tad over 18km return from my lodge. Very Enjoyable ride.

Pretty good ride with a historical aspect. Set in bush and some open land areas, a bit challenging and some improvements needed, overall 3/5. Took 3 hrs with 3 kids, 10, 13 and 14 and it was fairly challenging for them (especially the younger one, but all good mental strength building!). It was pretty in parts, although riding alongside the railway line was very rocky (could do with more smaller shingle there perhaps) and the loop track, while pretty, was a bit bumpy with lots of tree roots and old railway sleepers. That made it interesting for about 20 minutes, then it became a bit of a slog especially for kids. I would not recommend this ride for kids younger than 13, unless they are up for a challenge. We don't regret doing the ride, but think maybe the Fisher Track, or Old Coach Road might have been a better choice? Also - the signage (especially where the trail leaves the road (next to the pile of metal) and secondly, where the loop back meets) needs to be improved - the route marking is a bit too obscure. Also, better details of the route should be posted on the web.... there appears to be several different routes on the internet (one that suggests riding down Erua Rd) and I don't think it should be described as "perfect for families"! We also encountered some rather bemused locals at the beginning of the ride who thought we should not be riding on their private road, even though we pointed out the signs. Overall, we are grateful for the efforts of the people who made this ride, but there's a lot of room for improvement.....

A fabulous round trip ride from National Park Village. Its a great walking or bike trail for families, couples or singles. Allow 2 to 3 hours. Views are breathtaking, Tongariro volcanoes and alpine forests as your backdrop

Enjoyed this ride. Just keep an eye out on the small sign post. You could miss 1, and carry on for ages ( I didn't, but so easy to miss this one)
