        In the middle of a stunning and ancient totara forest, the fern walk is a gentle stroll fit for families. The recent storms have certainly done a little damage, but the bush is not meant to be manicured. Great bird life, interesting fungi

        Beautiful walk. 1.5-2hours. Very muddy, boots required. Sneakers or Sandals are not suitable.

        What an amazing little walk!!!! Highly recommend. Was soft under foot but can definitely see that after rain it would be extremely muddy. Nothing a good pair of boots and gators couldn't handle but would for sure keep that in mind if you're heading out. The wood pigeons that were about was awesome. So good to see them in good numbers. Also the 2 minute detour to the northern rata is well worth it. Such magnificent trees. If you're looking for a fairly easy hike then I'd recommend this track.

        The track is in dire need of some maintenance. In many places trees have been blown onto the path and it is difficult to navigate. Wear proper hiking footwear if attempting for the first time. Extremely muddy in places, this track will ruin walking shoes.
