        In March 2022 I stayed at Mt Rintoul Hut as a Te Araroa NoBo tramper. Being at the base of Mt Rintoul, the hut is probably one of the more important huts on the Richmond Alpine Route. Between Mt Rintoul and Old Man is one of the most challenging parts of South Island Te Araroa. The exposed nature and altitude of this part of the track means it's not recommended to try in bad weather or without adequate food and gear.
