There were 6 of us, all students at college, with zero experience in driving forklifts. In brief, the course consisted of 5 hours of theory (that could have been completed beforehand as it was open book), a 15 minute demonstration on how to operate a forklift and what the assessment would entail, and then being told to replicate the demonstration. As none of us had experience of using a forklift, the day would have been much more productive if we had received training on the day, which is what we thought we were going to get, not 5 hours of sitting down. Using a forklift for the first time in a tight space with cones was very difficult. Now, I'm assuming the instructor took an instant dislike to me, or perhaps it was his frustration that I couldn't remember all the steps in the assessment on a forklift I had never driven before, but it was an unpleasant experience and left me feeling upset and belittled.
