We only rode from Kaikohe to Horeke but we really enjoyed that half of the trail. You have to catch a train for a piece of the ride if you go in the other direction. The train only runs Fri-Sun. We picked up mountain bikes at Twin Coast Adventures for $50/bike and $50/ride back to Kaikohe.
