After a super disappointing trip to the honey house in Kerikeri where the front of house was rude, premises crowded and my dog screamed at by an angry fluffy dog outside, I came to the rusty tractor. I am so thankful i did! I was greeted when I walked in the door, no problems having my staffy outside with me and the coffee was great and cakes were yum! I visited again the next time I came to Keri and was again greeted in the same friendly manner, I have no interest in trying out any other cafe, the rusty tractor is comfortable, friendly and produces great food and drink, what else could I want. Only issue with ol rusty is the cakes are blimmin dangerous, it's impossible to not add one to you order Thank you guys for being awesome Kid-friendliness: They have a playground for kids which seems to be very much enjoyed

I was disappointed with my meal - lamb shank with potato gnocchi, charred cauliflower, olives, and lemon sour cream. The three small pieces of cauliflower were watery and flavourless, as were the olives (which weren't recognisable as olives in look or taste - I thought they were raisins at first). The gnocchi was stodgy and the tomato sauce watery and salty. The shank was OK but could have been cooked longer (the guide is being able to pull the meat off the bone with your fork - as oppised to cutting it off). I felt like this dish had been pre-made, then left to sit for a while and reheated, so the flavour was lost. My feeling is either bring this dish up to what it could/should be, and worth the $27 you pay for it, or take it off and replace it with something else. Sadly the best bit was the lemon sour cream. Plus side was my husband's fish and chips were good, and the setting is pleasant. But on the strength of my meal, I won't be back.
