This place should be promoted more!!! The best historical site we have been to in NZ. Save your $60 and skip Waitangi.... you can do this for free and get a real experience of historical NZ. The plaques along the walk are stories of people and events based on fact. There are no buildings left, but clever placement of pictures of how it used to look like, line up with the present day landscape. The views of the Bay of Islands are stunning and you can see where the fresh water meets the sea in the bay and realise why this was a good place for the pa site and the first Europeans to settle. The Marsden Cross marks where the first church service was held in NZ.
