While we were there we purchased a few pieces carved by Len Kay including a matching set of deer horn feathers and discovered that the person serving us was Candy Kay, the carver's wife.
We recently returned to Auckland for a visit and specially made a trip back to the Quarry Crafts Co-op where Candy was once again in the shop. While we were looking around and talking to Candy, she organised for us to go and have a chat with Ken at their carving studio which was a blast. Ken and Candy were very friendly and more than happy to show us around answering all our questions.
It was a highlight of our trip and somewhere we would recommend to anyone visiting the northland.
