        The drive to this area alone is worth the effort. Stunning emerald green fields surrounded by majestic mountain peaks...Quite amazing. The short walk to Sylvan Lake I did with my family was likewise gorgeous in terms of scenery. The Hututawai (red beech) trees that dominate here, capture beautiful light when the sun shines and if you're lucky you may meet a Kakaruwai (South Island Robin) who are notoriously inquisitive and will make your visit even more special.
