Roaring Bay is a special scenic area on the south coast of the tip of Nugget Point that is home to a small colony of Yellow-Eyed Penguins (Hoiho). (Hoiho) are one of the rarest penguin species in the world and are unique to New Zealand and the sub-Antarctic islands

Nice place with a great view over the bay. Came in the afternoon (16-17 pm) and no penguins. Just one lazy Kekeno(seal) at the beach. The observatory is now roofless after some wind. Saw the roof brought down a few meters from the observatory. The observatory is a really nice short steep walk down from the parking lot on a good sand/gravel road. It takes you about 5-10 minutes to reach the observatory.
