Sign says 4-6 hours. That's ONE WAY (we heavily misinterpreted that). Well hidden gem that's worth the trek if you have the food, water, and stamina for it. Don't be afriaid to open gates and close them behind you.

Reviewing car park instead of track cause google. Very nice track, but not for super beginners. Track markings are mostly clear, but watch out for paths that look real but arent. Stunning view at the end, plus some nice camping spots with a river.

Top hike in New Zealand, hands down. Incredible glacier and fantastic free tent camping in the lush valley that winds its way up to the face of the glacier. The trail is REALLY slow going, lots of mud and downed trees to slow you down. Definitely not something you can rush. If you were to do it as a day hike, you would need to start very early. We are extremely fit trampers and it took us about four hours ONE WAY to get a good look at the glacier, plus another hour or two to get all the way to the end up underneath it. Consider it a ten hour day minimum. We strongly encourage you to camp there overnight if you can! Plenty of wonderful campsites in the grass valley along the river as you hike in, very private and peaceful, and allowed you to really enjoy the glacier at sunset and sunrise when it's at its best!
