Nice 30min hike to get to the top (if you have a good level of fitness). You can either take the windy track that goes around the hill or the steep and direct route (I came down this way). Good views from the top of the tower.

The walk is well worth it, amazing views. Expect it to take a couple of hours, it gets steep at the top.

We started at stile beside the sign for Puketapu Summit and 'Puketapu Walking Track' opposite the lookout carpark at the end of Stour St. It was not clear where we should walk after we reached the top of the line of pine trees. We were among three groups that headed straight up and found ourselves in knee high thistles and navigating matagouri while climbing hand over hand up boulders. After studying Google maps satellite view now, i see that there might be a track that spirals down from the summit and meets the farm track beyond the point where we turned off and headed straight up. There needs to be some track markers to indicate this. Great views. Take plenty of water.

Hard walk uphill, but worth it for the views. Half an hour each way. Track a bit tricky in places.
