Sawyer Burn Hut

3hr return hike to the bushline. 5hr return to Sawyer Burn hut. A steep uphill climb through the forest with some narrow and rocky sections as you emerge from the trees. Moderately challenging but rewarding. Panoramic views over Lake Hwea Conservation Park. Lots of colorful mushrooms along the track in autumn and winter. The Hut is just 1 hour past the bushline on a mostly flat track. Sawyer Burn Hut has 4 beds with mattresses, open fire heating and there's a natural water source nearby. Completely free to stay, no advance permission or booking is required.

We love this trail run - its really challenging in that its steep to start and when it flattens out, you hug the side of the valley along skinny tails. The views are insane! Takes about 45mins to the top of the bush line and then another 30 to the hit running. Look out for Spaniards at the top (green spiky plants - not dangerous, just hurt if they stab you).

Great day walk up to the Sawyer Burn Hut, approximately 1 hr 45 minutes from the start at Kidds Bush. Hut sleeps 2 on wooden bunks, open fire for brewing your own coffee, grab some fresh water from the nearby stream.
