Matukituki Lodge

We booked pre Covid. The owners honoured our booking even though they had recently completed renovations to split the lodge into two seperate accomodations. Location was amazing! The drive to the lodge was fantastic, we went by many deer, sheep and cows. A few stand off's with some animals which eventually allowed us to pass. The lodge is very remote, it feels like you're in the middle of a mountain range with no one in sight. The property was very clean, wifi worked well and there's a hot tub! It is also extremely close to the Wildwire Twin falls climb, if you're planning this activity then I suggest you stay here. It is only 5 minutes up the road. The downside was extreme amounts of bugs, there are no screens on the windows which was very hard for us to let in some air. They do have heating as it's close to the snow fields and I assume that's peak time for bookings, there is no cooling for summer stays which was extremely uncomfortable as we could also not open any windows up either. Recommendations to the owner, put some screens on the windows and install some air conditioning.

The operator cancelled our booking simply because it was no longer convenient to them to offer shorter stays. I purposely booked months in advance as are travelling in the school holidays. It's now very difficult to find accommodation even with two months notice. It's been very stressful and not a good way to treat loyal New Zealanders who have been making an effort to support the tourism industry. It really undermines my confidence in making bookings in this part of NZ in the future. Just terrible people. I suggest anyone considering booking here looks elswhere.

The Lodge & scenery was amazing! Kate was so welcoming & had thought of everything to make our stay so enjoyable. The Lodge was so clean & well equipped.

The view and scenery has to be seen, pictures dont capture the scale. Its incredible here, you can spend the money in QT but this lodge provides some other kind of magic. Its also very well equipped, furnished, beautifully clean, plus all the details were taken care of like the fire being lit before arrival or the hot tub being hot, it even has ski drying racks. Thank you very much, amazing lodge.
