Found a car that met my exact needs in an engine. Sales staff made experience smooth. Only 4 stars though because the car was advertised as having GPS installed - which it does but the language is Japanese; there seems to be no setting to change this and so I will have to take it to a Mazda dealership if I want to change this. Am aware most dealerships sell imports also. Not a problem at the moment; but this shouldn't be advertised if it can't be useful? Otherwise, no other issues.

We recently purchased a car from HVS Dunedin. After getting an AA inspection it was found the CD player didn't work amongst a couple of smaller issues. Glenn organised to have it all fixed however came back in regards to the CD player saying it isnt able to be repaired but they could install a new one which would normally cost $795 but install it for $550. These stereos can be purchased off Amazon for a couple of hundred dollars so big markup there! Nonetheless, we advised the car had been advertised as coming with a working CD player. Glenn backtracked and advised that this was correct and that they would install it for FREE! This was great and couldnt fault them thus far. Then about a week later the fun began with the stereo clock and reverse camera. It started off with the clock resetting randomly. I emailed Glenn and he advised that this is a known issue with those stereos and that a firmware update should fix the problem. I dropped the car off to them and noted when I walked into the office, Glenn didnt acknowledge me, even after saying hi. Norman collected the keys and I made my own way home. The firmware update was done and the car was collected. The following day the same issue with the clock. Glenn organised to have the car collected. They installed a new stereo unit and dropped the car back off. About a week later the clock reset, so contacted Glenn once more and they put yet another stereo unit in. This fixed the bass issue but when reversing out of a car park and going back into drive there was a loud bang through the speakers and the stereo went dead, sound and screen. The only thing that fixed this was by turning the car off and back on. Once again the car went back to HVS and they were unable to replicate the issue which I can appreciate as it was very intermittent. Yet another stereo was put in. This time the bass was gone again until about a week later, the clock had reset again and there was another loud bang through the speakers again, the screen went black and the music stopped. It was at this point I decided to write a formal letter of complaint and email it to the Sales Manager Kieran. He responded by saying that the mechanic was away for the next couple of weeks and to book the car into Mitsubishi for them to look into and they will pay, promptly followed up with another email saying not to do that but they will book it into Auto Super Shoppe once they open in the new year. A week after Auto Super Shoppe had opened I still hadnt heard anything so I sent yet another email to find out what was happening. Norman advised they had been in touch with them however, it didnt sound like something they could fix and asked if I had any ideas. I once again suggested an auto electrician or Mitsubishi. At this point, they decided it would be best to transport the vehicle to their Christchurch branch to look into the problem. They provided us with a loan car which was good. I emailed Jon from the Christchurch branch about a week after we dropped the car off and he advised they believed they had fixed it. They advised they would like to test the car for a few days to ensure the problem was resolved and the car would be back on the next truck. After collecting the car this final time two things became apparent. They had travelled about 800 km in the car which after asking for an explanation was due to testing the car and the second thing was they had managed to badly scratch the dash trim which is where we are at now. Jon from the Christchurch branch responded to this by saying it wasnt them and that we were just looking for problems. I find it unbelievable and upsetting to essentially be told we are wrong and they are right. They sent through a photo of the car before being sold and advised the damage was there, the photo provided only showed light scuff marks and not the deep scratches. AA inspection only shows glove box scratches. Only acknowledged scuffs. Stereo sill not fixed and now issue being ignored. Referred to MTA for mediation. (Also attached photos HVS supplied)
