New to yoga, didn't know what I was doing and the instructor wasn't doing the moves with the class, so I didn't really know what to do, felt lost. Didn't feel welcomed into the class. Heat was quite intense for me, I was getting light headed and felt a bit sick. Also didn't like how crammed in everyone was given the class makes you sweat profusely. Not for me.

I am traveling through Dunedin and took a Bikram class (didn't realize it was Bikram when I booked as no one writes that on the class anymore). I understand there are different styles of yoga and I don't have to like them all but as a certified yoga teacher myself I found the class to have a very odd vibe and some harmful cuing so I left after 30 minutes. The one that comes to mind was the cue to lock our knees (stated/shouted multiple times) in a standing balance pose. We are directly taught to never say that as it's harmful for our joints and can cause injury and looking around the room most of the class was easily over 50 years old! The teacher was not helping people or adjusting form at all, just telling people to sit down if they looked too hot. I'm not sure if it was the studio, teacher, or Bikram itself but it just did not feel like a very welcoming or frankly safe environment to practice.
