Pouakai Circuit Reflective Tarn

(Translated by Google) A superb hike when the weather is nice! We were lucky to have blue skies and sunshine, with a magnificent view of the volcano when we arrived. We are really not athletic and did the hike in 2h30 to the lake and 1h30 to return to the parking lot. Nous ne sommes vraiment pas sportifs et avons fait la rando en 2h30 jusqu'au lac et 1h30 pour revenir au parking. Le chemin grimpe beaucoup mais en prenant quelques pauses il est accessible mme si vous n'tes pas tres athletiques ! N'ayez pas peur et foncez, a vaut le coup !!

The car park is really big so plenty of parking, there is toilets there as well. I walked the Mangorei trailhead track, walk starts off walking up the road to the start of trail then you walk past a couple of houses before getting to wooden walkway and the thousands of steps that follow. Took me 1hr 30min to get to pouakai hut, 5min walk from there you'll come to the open junction and lookout to Mt Taranaki. Go left to go to reflective Tarns or go right to Holly hut and bells falls. Continuing left from the junction it's 15min walk to the Tarnz where you get the spectacular view of Mt Taranaki on a cloud and wind free to capture the mirror reflection in the water. Makes it well worth the effort.

Beautiful view of the Mt. Just no cover so bring warm things (gloves, hat etc) as you will feel the temperature drop!
