The cutest camping ever! No reservation, you just drive there and the lovely office lady (owner?) will show you your site. It costed us 30$ (cash) for a tent site (2 pers/one night). It has showers, toilet, water, kitchen, fridge -> everything you need. Its a quiet place next to the beach (black sand!) with a stunning sunset.

Lovely little camping ground great sea views, 5 mins to beach, dog friendly, clean facilities although very kiwiana style. Phoebe was awesome and takes meticulous care of the grounds and facilities. Highly recommend.

TAKE CASH! Beautiful location right next to the beach, really quiet and friendly. $25 for a powered site reflects the facilities that are very rugged but fine for the adventurous, clean kitchen, flush toilets, vintage shower. Well behaved dogs seemed welcome. Super nice site manager let me charge my car on 16a

This is EXACTLY my kind of motor camp! Right on the beach. (Walk out the entrance turn left and the water is less than 100 metres away.) Uncrowded and friendly. Unrushed. The manager, Phoebe, has been here for something like 15 years. She pointed out the perfect place for our tent on the extensive grassed grounds, and shared memories of Ohawe and it's people day after day during our stay. The facilities are very basic but clean and entirely adequate in my book. Wi-fi is up the hill on the outskirts of the little township. I think these last two features keep people away. That means campers enjoy a quiet, restful space and non-campers miss out on a South Taranaki treasure. One thing to enjoy is the late 1960s stone work at the upper section of the camp. It fans out from a spring that is still flowing. My wife's family lived nearby from about 1959 and used it occasionally when the rains failed. The feature is now overgrown. But it was presumably responsible over many centuries for carving out the ampitheatre which is now occupied by the local trust-run camp site.
